Association of Corporate Counsel Europe celebrates lawyers’ independence
PARIS - The Association of Corporate Counsel Europe (ACC Europe), which serves the needs of more than 3,100 lawyers practicing in corporations and other organizations throughout Europe, salutes the European Lawyers’ Day and the European Day of Justice 2021, which are celebrated today 25th October 2021:
- The European Lawyers’ Day (ELD) is celebrated by the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) to highlight the essential role that lawyers play as actors of the judicial system and their contribution to the protection of the rule of law, a cornerstone of European democracy.
- The European Day of Justice (EDJ) is celebrated by the Council of Europe and the European Commission and aims mainly to bring justice closer to citizens, informing citizens on their rights and promoting the work of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the field of justice.
‘This year’s theme of ELD is “No justice without independent lawyers”. This is a topic very close to our hearts as we believe that independence is an essential prerequisite for the effective performance of a lawyer’s duties, whether she works in house or as an external counsel.’ stated Javier Ramirez, member of the Board of Directors and Chair of Advocacy of ACC Europe, and added: ‘We know that all our members, along with their colleagues in other roles throughout Europe value their independence and are committed to resisting any pressure, that would attempt to challenge it. So, on behalf of all our members, we salute the ELD 2021 and celebrate the struggles of European Lawyers, throughout the years, in the defense of the rule of Law. We also salute the EDJ 2021 and recognize the role not only of Lawyers, but also anyone working in the field of justice that strives for providing better access to justice for the European citizens, including Judges, the Council of Europe and the European Commission.’
