This poll focused on how education and training for the in-house community has been impacted
WASHINGTON (May 18, 2020) — The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) fielded its second member flash poll to examine how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting members. This poll focused on how education and training for the in-house community has and will likely continue to be impacted.
The results show that a large majority of respondents had already been prevented from attending in-person education and training events. Nearly half were willing to attend events in the future if additional health safety measures are enforced.
“Continuing legal education and training are a core requirement for in-house counsel to ensure they stay on the leading edge of innovation and information, especially in this turbulent business environment,” said Veta T. Richardson, president and CEO of ACC. “These poll results touch on the concerns and challenges our members are facing with respect to one of their core responsibilities. We will use this valuable feedback to tailor both the content and opportunities for our members to receive the training they need to be successful.”
The poll found that 69.6 percent of respondents confirmed that COVID-19 prevented them from attending an in-person education or training event. Forty-six percent shared that they anticipate their education/training budget will decrease over the next year, while 29.4 % reported “no change” to their budget.
Finally, 44.9 percent said that they would be willing to attend in-person events once additional health safety measures are enforced, such as limited attendance, wearing protective equipment, or maintaining strict social distancing guidelines. An additional 27.7 percent revealed that they would only attend in-person events once a vaccine is widely available.
This poll opened on May 5 and closed on May 11, with 405 randomly selected ACC members providing answers. This is the second in a planned series of informal polls designed to elicit informal feedback from in-house counsel on a variety of topics related to the impact of COVID-19. The full results are available on the ACC website.
