ACC will host the 2017 ACC Legal Ops Conference, "Accelerating Innovation in Legal Services," on June 4-6 in Chicago.

WASHINGTON (April 10, 2017) -- The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing more than 42,000 in-house counsel in 85 countries, will host the 2017 ACC Legal Ops Conference, themed "Accelerating Innovation in Legal Services," on June 4-6 in Chicago. This year's conference adds a third track of concurrent programming, offers a capstone session on design thinking, and will feature "shark tanks" on emerging legal technology.

The 2017 ACC Legal Ops Conference, the principal gathering of in-house legal department operations professionals, is the third annual meeting for ACC Legal Operations, a membership division exclusively dedicated to legal operations executives. ACC launched the section in March 2015, and membership has grown by more than 40 percent since the inaugural conference later that year.

At this year's conference, representatives from nearly 100 companies, including 3M, Abbott, Ingersoll Rand, Liberty Mutual, MasterCard, Medtronic, Microsoft, and Walmart, will come together to collaborate, network, participate in industry/interest group meetings, and plan benchmarking and standards-setting projects for the rest of the year.

"As the legal operations profession continues to grow exponentially, collaborative events like the ACC Legal Ops Conference are an even more vital opportunity to connect with peers," said Reese Arrowsmith, first-ever chair of ACC Legal Operations and VP, head of legal operations, Campbell Soup Company. "The annual event is a time to take stock of progress in advancing corporate law department management over the past year, and plan for upcoming changes in the fast-moving legal industry."

This year's ACC Legal Ops Conference will include:

  • A choice of nearly 40 educational sessions
  • An interactive capstone session on how using design-thinking can reimagine the legal industry
  • Three "shark tanks" sessions on artificial intelligence, external spend data analytics, and contract analytics
  • A keynote session featuring general counsel with robust legal operations functions: Dawn Smith, VMware and Peter Lieb, Aon

The conference will also reprise last year's half-day bootcamp, "How to Gain Traction," on establishing the legal operations function. The session is taught by legal operations veterans, including Arrowsmith; Diana Barlow, AVP, legal operations, Voya Financial; Bruce Goldberg, corporate counsel and director of legal operations, Allstate Insurance Company; and Elizabeth Jaworski, director, legal operations, Astellas Pharma.
