Encouraging embracing change, applying the right tools to align priorities, and learning best practices to measure progress will be 2018 ACC Legal Operations Conference themes.

WASHINGTON (May 7, 2018) — Encouraging the law department to embrace change, applying the right tools to align priorities, and learning best practices to measure progress will be key themes of sessions at the 2018 ACC Legal Operations Conference, to be held June 11-13 in Chicago.

The fourth annual conference will cover topics addressing the broad scope of legal operations professionals' responsibilities, with special focus on how these leaders can use the ACC Legal Operations Maturity Model to advance in 14 different law department management functions, such as financial management, legal technology, knowledge management, and information governance, among others. The working groups that developed the model will lead hands-on workshops fostering peer collaboration, as well as present TED-style talks on implementing the maturity model tools.

Building on data from the ACC Chief Legal Officers 2018 Survey showing that 43 percent of general counsel will definitely or may terminate a law firm in 2018, the conference will also include a working session with law firm representatives on how to improve the law firm/client relationship.

"This year's ACC Legal Operations Conference offers programming on topics that are as wide-reaching as the day-to-day duties of a legal operations leader," said Reese Arrowsmith, chair of ACC Legal Operations and VP, head of legal operations at Campbell Soup Company. "We touch on driving change, measuring progress, collaborating with outside providers, and optimizing your internal resources. There is something for everyone, whether you are just installing the legal operations function or your department is a model of efficiency and innovation."

Taking into account the ever-evolving corporate law landscape, the conference will kick off with a session on artificial intelligence for legal departments and a keynote roundtable with general counsel on the future of legal service management. The conference includes a number of interactive workshops, "shark tank"-style pitches allowing comparison of legal service vendors, a pair of working sessions on blockchain, and a debate on what "the rise of the 'non-lawyer'" means for the legal industry.
