ACC today announced it has been honored as a recipient of the 2016 When Work Works Award for its use of innovative workplace strategies to increase business and employee success.
WASHINGTON (June 22, 2016) – The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing more than 40,000 in-house counsel employed by over 10,000 organizations in 85 countries, today announced it has been honored as a recipient of the 2016 When Work Works Award for its use of innovative workplace strategies to increase business and employee success.
Part of the national When Work Works initiative administered by the Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), applicants are evaluated on six factors of a successful workplace, such as opportunities for learning, a culture of trust, work-life balance, supervisor support, autonomy, and satisfaction with earnings, benefits and opportunities for advancement.

ACC offers its staff the opportunity to take advantage of numerous flexible work arrangements to yield positive business results and help employees succeed at work and home. This includes options for telecommuting, flextime, and compressed workweek schedules. The use of technology has also helped the association benefit from these flexible work arrangements, making it a seamless process for employees to stay connected while working remotely. The association also provides a wellness program, incorporating rewards for preventative health exams, monthly chair massages, and "walkathon" (steps challenge).
Additionally, between the end of May and early September, ACC allows staff to dress casually and take advantage of "Aloha Days," which entails working a compressed workweek in return for one day off every other week. Employees who are caregivers also have access to on-demand childcare and eldercare services as part of their benefits package. To support ongoing professional development, the association has set aside funds yearly for each employee to spend on training seminars, job-related association memberships, periodical subscriptions and other activities that directly relate to one's ability to perform their current job functions. Further, ACC provides an educational scholarship and certificate program to its full-time, permanent employees to promote and support continuing education.

When Work Works is a national project that shares research results on what makes an effective and flexible workplace with the business community.
