Effectively Mapping and Managing Legal and Regulatory COVID-19 Risks (22 May, 13.00-14.00 CEST)

The COVID-19 outbreak is a human tragedy; a tragedy with ever-increasing effects on the global economy. Crisis management, business continuity and emergency response — just to name a few — are the current buzzwords. The priorities for management include employee protection, delivery management, liquidity protection, and liquidity support along with legal issues regarding topics such as continued wages and short-time work. Governments around the globe try to manage the respective impact on their area of influence by a magnitude of measures. Amongst the massive state aid packages, new or modified laws and regulations are published with high frequency and impact businesses as well as societies. Some of the latter regulations may waive or alter well established processes (e.g. simplifying tendering processes). For some, crisis mode almost serves as THE justification for a continuous management override.  At the same time the occurrence of fraud and corruption is on the rise. At current stage the risk associated with this crisis by far surpasses the potential chances.

The session will therefore focus on a variety of deriving legal and regulatory risks, leveraging inter alia geo-referencing information platforms and latest program management software tools on a cross-regional and global level. Furthermore it will showcase real life (sanitized) examples of how e.g. well intended management overridden procurement activities for crisis management related goods and materials can create legal headaches, but more importantly how fact finding activities leveraging aforementioned technologies and approaches can help remediate. The presenter will use live demo of the referred-to platforms and tools.
