Prepare yourself before you head to DC and make the most of your networking time.
-
Create goals — time is limited and moves quickly once the meeting starts. Set goals and targets for yourself to maximize your time.
-
Research the attendees, speakers and sponsors — view the attendee list (available in your registration statement and in the Annual Meeting app [see below]) to see who is planning to join us at the meeting.
-
Use the Annual Meeting app — engage with fellow attendees that you want to meet, or follow up with, during and after the meeting.
-
Review the program schedule — determine the best times to connect with your fellow attendees. For specific networking events, arrive early. It is easier to connect with others before the room fills.
-
Attend as many networking events as you can — a complete list can be found here. Be sure to check this page regularly as new networking events are continually added (as they are confirmed).
-
Be confident and deliver a strong first impression — make eye contact, smile, and shake hands. This may seem silly, we know, but everyone can use an occasional reminder! Want to stand out? Create a signature look (e.g., a bright accessory, blazer or glasses) to ensure the experience is a memorable one.
-
Bring business cards — Hand out your business cards to those you've had meaningful conversations, and connect with your new contacts on LinkedIn and/or via email once you return home.
