Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC Southern CaliforniaWith just 3 hours of your time (which includes the training), you can dramatically assist a family with caregiving needs to achieve access to the courts! For over 14 years, Bet Tzedek’s Self-Help Conservatorship Clinic has been serving family members anxious to ensure uninterrupted care for their adult children with severe developmental disabilities, or for their parents suffering from dementia or other conditions preventing appropriate self-care. These litigants seek assistance with the probate court process to secure conservatorships over their loved ones.
Volunteers will join a virtual conference room for a 1-hour training on conservatorship matters and how to use Law Help, a web-based document preparation platform that generates the necessary court forms for the conservatorship filing. The pro bono attorneys then, working singly or in pairs, independently work on the assigned client matter and have an opportunity to call litigants to review and/or ask for missing information. Bet Tzedek staff remains available in the virtual conference room to answer questions and offer support.
