This year’s High Court decisions don’t remove all ambiguity, but it is an important step in reducing the uncertainty that businesses face in contracting their workforce.
Join Madgwicks’ Workplace Relations Special Counsel, Tim Greenall and Tax Partner Philip Diviny as they discuss these recent decisions, incorporating both the employment and taxation implications.

Speakers
Commercially savvy with over 30 years of experience, Tim provides pragmatic employment advice to his clients.
Tim advises on all aspects of employment law including enterprise bargaining, equal opportunity, entitlements and awards interpretation, termination and dismissal disputes, disciplinary process and termination and restructuring and redundancy.
Tim acts for employers across a broad range of industries including retail and manufacturing, professional services, higher education and research, in addition to executives and managers on their individual employment issues. In addition, Tim is able to assist with policy development, implementation and training.
Tim is also an accredited mediator and regularly advises employers in relation to mediations and conciliations, bringing a strategic approach to the resolution of workplace issues and problems.
Tim represents clients in the Fair Work Commission as well as all Victorian and Federal Courts. He holds a Masters of Law from the London School of Economics and has lectured at La Trobe Law School and the Leo Cussen Institute as well as being a former chairperson of the Workplace Relations section of the Law Institute of Victoria. Tim is a regular author and is considered a leading author on Mondaq.
A highly-regarded tax lawyer with a broad-based tax advisory, tax controversy and international tax practice, Philip works across a variety of industries, including property, infrastructure, agriculture, shipping, chemicals and health.
Philip is a highly numerate lawyer, and through his experience as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser as well as lawyer, has expertise in all facets of tax and is able to communicate complex ideas simply. Philip is a current member of the Advisory Panel to the Board of Taxation and a regular speaker and presenter. He is the former author of the Australian chapter for the publications “International Tax and Investment Service” and “International Taxation of Low Tax Transactions” published by the Center for International Legal Studies.
