Building an inclusive culture for LGBTQIA+ employees is an essential element of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace. In this roundtable, we discuss how in-house counsel and legal departments can be allies and advocates for LGBTQIA+ issues inside and outside the workplace . Hear from experts Pride in Law and your fellow in-house counsel on how you can help deliver truly LGBTQIA+ inclusive work environments, including through the use of inclusive language. 


Speakers

Lisa Wright

Lisa Wright (she/her) - Moderator

Lisa is a lawyer, agile enthusiast and champion for diversity, equity and inclusion. Lisa’s day job is currently focused on the development of a refreshed diversity, equity and inclusion policy for Telstra after spending over a decade as an employment lawyer handling employee disputes both in private practice and in-house. Lisa combines her experience in discrimination law and love of human centred design to build, test and iterate innovative programs to promote diversity and inclusion at work. Outside of work, Lisa is a member of ACC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Special Interest Committee and enjoys exploring the wilderness with her family in her adopted home state of lutriwita (Tasmania).

 

Yasmin Murry

Yasmin Murry she/her - Presenter

Yasmin volunteers as a Director of Pride in Law - Australia's National LGBTIQ+ law association. Pride in Law is a non-political association, aimed at connecting LGBTIQ+ members of the legal community and allies through education, networking and advocacy. Yasmin works as an Assistant Director in the Consumer Product Safety Division of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), and is a coordinator of the ACCC's Pride Network. Yasmin plays in a women's AFL team, and she loves to cook and spend time outdoors. 

 

Sunil Puranikmath

Sunil Puranikmath (he/him), Telstra - Presenter

Sunil is a Tech, Media and Sports lawyer, looking after a team of 8 at Telstra. When Sunil isn’t busy locking away commercial deals with majors sporting codes around the world, content streaming providers, artists, stadiums and more, he enjoys playing for Sydney’s only LBGT hockey team – Bentstix. Achievements to date include, winning the Corporate Counsel Lawyer of the Year award 4 times. Sunil lives in Sydney with his partner Ben and miniature dachshund Schnitzel von Krumm.

 

Craig Emery

Craig Emery (he/him), Telstra - Presenter

Craig is the Head of the Legal Chapter at Telstra.  Over a 15 year career at Telstra he’s served as the General Counsel for Telstra’s consumer, small business, product, marketing, M&A and international divisions (during which time he lived and worked in Hong Kong).  In his current role, Craig leads a team of around 150 lawyers. In addition, Craig is a Director of Telstra Energy and a member of Telstra’s Executive Leadership team.  Craig lives in the Hills District of Sydney with his wife, Vanessa (his childhood sweetheart), his children, Jake (12), and Paige (10), Lucky the Kelpie and Cleatus the Bearded Dragon.  His interests include golf, cooking and trail running.
