ACC Southern CaliforniaGlobally the fashion and furniture industries are expected to generate over $770 billion and $765 billion, respectively, in 2024. These two giant industries overlap in many ways, including design, innovation, copying, and functionality. And the overlaps prevalent in both industries implicate the same intellectual property laws, namely, design patent, copyright, and trademark or trade dress. The panelists will discuss recent intellectual property trends relating to fashion and furniture designs. The panelists are experts in their respective fields: Scott Shaw, an intellectual property litigator with emphasis in the fashion and furniture industries; Maryn Miller, an in-house fashion law attorney; Shannon King, an in-house furniture and home goods attorney; and, Chris Buccafusco, a Duke intellectual property law professor. The panel moderator is Joni Gaudes, EVP, General Counsel, Hybrid Apparel.
