What is your role as in-house counsel to influence the safety culture and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to mitigate risks and prevent accidents?

This session, presented by Piper Alderman’s Workplace Health & Safety and Employment Law Partner, Shane Entriken, will discuss the importance of safety in the workplace, share best practices, and explore practical solutions to common safety concerns.

Practical takeaways from this session will include how to:

1.    Assess your legal duties.
2.    Consider your risk mitigation strategies at a company and also personal level.
3.    Know if you are exposed on the journey from current to future state.
4.    Start the dialogue when you unsure or concerned and want to lead towards a culture of safety and open communication.

Speakers

Shane Entriken


Shane Entriken, Partner, Piper Alderman

Shane is a nationally recognised leader in employment, industrial relations and workplace health and safety law. He is recognised in Doyle’s Guide and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Shane acts for companies and for regulators in prosecutions.

He is also skilled in commercial and governance law, and acts as a General Counsel for some clients.

Shane is a Head of Office and a member of the Strategic Leadership Group at Piper Alderman. He started his legal career with Freehills, and subsequently held senior roles with BHP across coal, base metals, iron ore and petroleum, for operations and expansion projects.

He has clients in most industries including mining, energy, engineering, construction, power, transport, retail, air and sea ports, government, maritime, education and agriculture.

Shane leads a proactive workplace health and safety law team nationally with a deep capability and experience. His team educates boards and senior officers on strategy, legal compliance, designs and reviews systems, conducts investigations, conducts deep dives and benchmarking processes, critical response processes, legal representation and support for employers during serious accidents and in prosecutions.

Shane is a Director of Crime Stoppers WA. He designed and taught the unit Legal Strategy in Organisations at Murdoch University, and is the co-author of a book on the management of FIFO operations by mining.
