ACC AustinAZA Presents: What Today's Lawyers Are Doing Wrong and How to Stop Them
When it comes to trial, today's litigators often think like litigators. This is a problem. Juries do not think like litigators. In this CLE, Todd Mensing, Rey Flores and Jason McManis of AZA will present how in-house counsel can identify when their litigators are not preparing their case for the realities of a jury trial, and how to chart a course correction before it is too late. This includes how to pursue effective theme and story-building in discovery and trial, the correct use of visuals at trial, and powerful strategies for motivating juries.
One hour of Texas MCLE General Credit is approved for this presentation.

Speakers
Having tried more than 60 cases, Todd Mensing is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction reserved for Texas trial lawyers with a high degree of trial experience and expertise. During the last ten years, an average of fewer than five attorneys per year statewide has earned the distinction.
Rey Flores represents clients in complex commercial disputes and wrongful death and catastrophic injury matters across the country and internationally. His representations span a variety of business sectors including the oil and gas, construction, petrochemical, heavy equipment, healthcare, building materials, automation, and retail industries.
Rey’s prior litigation experience includes work as both a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, as a Special Prosecutor for the State of Texas, and as lead defense counsel in various high-profile cases with significant national security implications.
Jason S. McManis is a partner at AZA and the head of AZA’s intellectual property group. He is a skilled trial lawyer with extensive experience in front of the jury in courtrooms across the United States.
Mr. McManis represents both plaintiffs and defendants in high stakes patent infringement and trade secret disputes, and his history of success includes cases involving all types of technologies, including wireless networking, financial services, digital media, data security, oilfield services, app development, and medical devices.
From his successes across a diverse array of technologies and legal issues, Mr. McManis has learned how to simplify complex and often highly technical issues for judges, juries, and clients.
