8:30-9:15 – ICE Enforcement Actions: Employer Preparedness to Minimize Business Disruption
FOLEY & LARDNER - Speakers: Dan Kaplan, Matt Krueger, John Litchfield
Description: This session will address new executive orders and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Justice (DOJ) directives regarding immigration and work authorization practices for employers. DHS has announced it intends to increase its level of ICE enforcement activity, including agent raids on public and private employers, and the DOJ intends to investigate public officials who resist compliance. Employers should have a preparedness plan in place to minimize disruption to business operations. This presentation will cover both the legal and practical landscape employers face in light of these new actions, best practices for when an ICE representative or agent shows up to an employer’s business, and an outline of an employer’s Fourth Amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.
