Elisabeth Flett
General Counsel
Cancer Council NSW
Elisabeth joined the Cancer Council in September 2021. This is Elisabeth's first role as General Counsel, and in the not-for-profit sector, having previously held Corporate Counsel roles at global logistics and supply chain business DP World, ASX-listed agribusiness Ruralco Holdings Limited, and construction and facilities management company BGIS.
Her team's work supports the Board, Executive and employees to accomplish Cancer Council's charitable objectives; from embedding patient support into cancer treatment centres, to establishing new funding streams for cancer research, support, and advocacy.
Elisabeth was appointed to re-form the legal function and improve services, following a difficult period of change for the legal team. In only 12 months, Elisabeth has exceeded expectations, creating a strong and enjoyable team culture, delivering high-quality and timely legal support on over 550 matters and key projects, and developing her knowledge in areas of law not previously practiced.
As well as securing a significant pro bono commitment in her first month, Elisabeth's achievements include: embedding legal support within each division, delivering new business-enabling tools including a contract risk assessment framework and legal engagement processes, leading the organisation through regulatory change, and rewriting key policies including a delegation of authority policy.
