Walmart's Rachel Brand recently visited ACC headquarters in Washington, DC to talk with ACC President & CEO Veta T. Richardson about adjusting to her new role as EVP of Global Governance, CLO, and corporate secretary at the world's largest company. Walmart is the largest company by revenue on the 2019 Fortune Global 500 list and is the largest private sector employer in the world with 2.2 million employees globally.
The two discussed how Brand is approaching her "broader than legal" role, which includes overseeing traditional legal functions as well as ethics, compliance, corporate security, aviation, investigative functions, and the company's Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Because of this, Brand's team includes lawyers, microbiologists, mechanics, pilots, meteorologists, and more. How does she manage such a varied global team, while also working directly with Walmart's BOD and handling everything that crosses a chief legal officer's desk? Read the full interview to find out.
