ACC is pleased to announce the fifth annual Leadership Excellence Council (LEC) Program. Through the Leadership Excellence Council Program, ACC is investing in former chapter presidents, committee chairs, and ACC board members to heighten their ability to serve as representatives of in-house counsel on key legal, business, and industry association boards around the world. We endeavor to create a pipeline of potential leaders that will be funneled into influential organizations where the in-house counsel perspective is lacking, but necessary to advance the interest of our professional sector. World-class faculty will help selected leaders refine key skills such as the art of persuasion, relationship building and maintenance, negotiating, and more, all while understanding and leveraging ACC's strategic goals.
Program graduates will be designated ACC Ambassadors and receive special assignments and enjoy mutual benefits designed to both further their career, and the in-house counsel influence around the world. This program is free, but you must complete an application form to be considered. To receive the application form, and for more information, email m.colby@acc.com.

SESSION 5: LEADING THROUGH INFLUENCE
Exercising real leadership and leading positive change requires more than just a worthy goal or a good idea. It also requires the ability to influence people both within and outside your chain of command in order to gain support and overcome resistance; that is, it requires skill at informal leadership. This session helps participants to understand and develop three key skills of informal leadership: navigating politics, understanding power, and exercising influence.
Informal Leadership and Navigating the Organization
In the morning, we will talk about the art and science of navigating the informal organization – what we sometimes call “navigating politics”. As part of our discussion, we will analyze a classic case that illustrates the importance of understanding and navigating the informal organization.
The Science and Practice of Influence
In this afternoon, we look at the science of influence – the various ways that people try to influence one another in order to get things done. We will consider and analyze examples of influence, practice applying those skills, and will invite you to consider your own approach to influence using your results from the Influence Behavior Inventory.
