Legal Services Division
Services Australia
The Legal Services Division of Services Australia (the Legal Team) is a full-service government in-house legal team supporting Services Australia to deliver essential national government services such as Centrelink, Medicare, and child support payments. Through these programs, we are responsible for managing the personal information of every Australian. This is a big responsibility, and legal advice is a key component in ensuring the Agency manages this information legally and ethically.
The Legal Team consists of a Chief Counsel, five General Counsels, one National Manager and 221 dedicated lawyers and legal operational staff. The Legal Team is based around Australia, providing solution-focused legal advice, in a fast-paced, operational environment that services millions of Australians.
In addition to providing legal support around Medicare, Centrelink and Child Support, the Legal Team has worked tirelessly to support Services Australia to assist Australians throughout the recent flood disasters in New South Wales and Queensland, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Further, the Legal Team has provided advice and assurance around a number of key initiatives such as the development of the new Enhanced myGov platform and the myGov app, digital identity, and automation.
