Michael McLaws is an accomplished and multi-disciplined lawyer, business partner, and executive leader with over 10 years of dynamic legal and company secretary experience gained in Australia and Canada. Michael brings a uniquely commercial approach to his work by leveraging an earlier career in the energy and resources sector, and skills as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP/PMI).
As part of Seqwater’s Senior Leadership Team, Michael assists the General Counsel & Company Secretary with group leadership, budget management, company secretariat, and Board and CEO legal advice, while also leading a functional portfolio for corporate governance, legal risk and compliance, ethics and business integrity, information privacy, document management, and special projects for the CEO and Board. Michael also works cross-functionally with other leaders to drive enterprise wide high-performance across strategic priorities, and regularly reports to the Executive Leadership Team and Seqwater’s Board and its committees.
Since joining Seqwater in 2019, Michael has led several Board and Executive approved projects of strategic value that deliver efficiencies, eliminate bureaucracy, and improve use of digital technologies to create better ways of working for enhanced operational excellence. On 30 June 2023, Michael completed delivery of a three-year program of work to significantly enhance Seqwater’s corporate governance and internal control environment, on time and under budget.
