Will Day, Deputy Commissioner - Australian Taxation Office
Will Day has had an extensive and varied career in the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), spanning more than 20 years.
Will is currently the ATO’s Deputy Commissioner of Integrated Compliance.
As Deputy Commissioner he has responsibility for providing holistic solutions to counter deliberate, systemic or complex behavioural issues that pose the biggest threats to the integrity of the tax and superannuation systems.
In addition, Will leads the ATO’s efforts in protecting the tax and superannuation systems from abuse, including through tax evasion, serious financial crime and aggressive tax planning.
Will’s role involves extensive external engagement with the public and private sectors, as well as domestic and international collaboration with a range of stakeholders, particularly in relation to tackling tax evasion and serious financial crime.
He is Chief of the Serious Financial Crime Taskforce, Chair of the multi-agency Phoenix Taskforce and is the Australian representative of the Joint Chiefs of Global Tax Enforcement (J5) alliance.
Will has held a number of other senior leadership roles at the ATO, including as ATO’s Deputy Chief Tax Counsel, during which time he lead a revolutionary new approach to all forms of public advice and guidance.
