This article discusses the need for new laws in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has obviously affected the business of short-term rental accommodation (exemplified by Airbnb). The demand for such short-term rentals has naturally diminished during the pandemic; however, new strata laws in New South Wales, Australia have sought to remedy this issue for all parties involved. As such, the Fair Trading Amendment (Short-term Rental Accommodation) Act 2018 No 41 was enacted on 10 April 2020 in order to address the short-term rental concerns.
