The Community Service Committee has partnered with the Friends of the W&OD to organize a trail clean-up on the W&OD in Arlington, VA.

We will meet at the Columbia Pike Park & Ride lot (4850 10th St S, Arlington, VA 22204) and will clean the section of trail that runs from Columbia Pike to S George Mason Dr.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, including families and friends of ACC NCR members.  Volunteers should bring their own gloves and should dress in clothes appropriate for picking up trash from in and around the thick brush that lines the trail (orange trash bags and a limited number of “grabbers” will be available for volunteer use).

Although parking is plentiful, feel free to ride your bikes to the activity!  We will offer “bike valet” parking at the sign-up table (look for the canopy near the Park and Ride Lot).

Following the clean-up (between 10:00 – 10:30 am), we have planned a friendly 10-mile “no-drop” bike ride to Gravelly Point, ending at Best Buns in Shirlington for some post-ride treats!

In the event of inclement weather, we will push the clean-up activity to April 12 at the same time/place.

About This Volunteer Opportunity:

In partnership with Legal at CHANEL, we are welcoming graduating high school seniors to the Chanel Corporate office to help them prepare for  their summer jobs and internships. The Legal Outreach educational program serves low-income, mostly minority, and/or first generation urban youth from underserved neighborhoods in New York City.

Volunteers will work with students 1-to-1 on topics such as:

  • Creating a Targeted Resume: Students will learn the dos and don’ts of developing a resume that will be attractive to potential employers. Students will be able to create their own standout resumes after reviewing sample resumes and receiving tips for highlighting their skills from facilitators.
  • Writing a Compelling Cover Letter: Students will learn how to craft cover letters that will gain the attention of potential employers. They will review examples of various cover letters to understand the structure and how to clearly and concisely demonstrate in writing that their skills are a match for a company’s needs.
  • Preparing for the Interview and Follow Through: Students will learn the steps to preparing for an interview and how to place themselves in the best position to receive a job offer through post-interview follow-up.

Refreshments will be served.
