LINKEDIN OVERVIEW

LinkedIn provides an opportunity for ACC chapters to engage members through online discussion, information sharing and virtual networking opportunities. Discussions topics may range from CLE programs and chapter events to recent news articles of interest to the in-house community.

  • Get Organized

    GET ORGANIZED

Develop a plan and create team to create engagement on the LinkedIn Company Page.  The plan outlines how the team will announce the page creation or revitalization, promote the page, and post to the company page.

    The Team

The team should consist of at least one board member and four to six other members who are committed to, and take responsibility for using the ACC Chapter’s LinkedIn Company Page to engage members.  Engaging members requires regular posting.  Members who already engage in social media are ideal candidates for the team.  Recruit volunteers through an announcement on the chapter’s website, in the newsletter, or at chapter events.  The team should include member leaders that focus on communications and programming.

    The Plan

Create a posting schedule with timeframes and champions.

Plan to post at least three-five times a week.  Work group members should post per the schedule. The posting schedule should include posting a variety of dynamic, engaging content.

  • Get the Word Out

GET THE WORD OUT - PROMOTING THE LINKEDIN COMPANY PAGE

Use a variety of methods to promote the page to chapter members. Task force members as well as chapter board members should invite their LinkedIn connections to follow the ACC chapter page.
Here are some quick tips to spread the word:

    • Incorporate the LinkedIn logo (with a link to the page) into all outgoing messaging vehicles (website, email messages, print materials, etc.)
    • Announce the launch of the page and share milestones. Send an email to chapter members to announce the launch of the page.  “The ACC ____ chapter is now on LinkedIn!” “25 comments on (_____ hot topic) discussion in our LinkedIn page, follow us now!”
    • Through the LinkedIn platform, invite your connections to follow the page.
    • Talk it up! Tell chapter members about the page at chapter events.
  • Stay Engaged

    MAINTAINING ENGAGEMENT

    Suggested types of posts
    • Coordinate with POC for chapter CLE programs.  Post announcements with event details.  Consider posting a discussion question associated with the CLE topic for the event.
    • Post unique insights that were shared during the CLE event or even links to program materials
    • Scan local legal community publications for articles and news relevant to in-house counsel.  Post links to articles and news.
    • Post a discussion question on any issue team members are currently facing in their own practices.
    • Post a link to an ACC resource that relates to a recent post.  The member posting can share their experience about the value of the resource.  Consider asking how members have used the resource or if they have feedback.
    • Recognize accomplishments of a member or committee that has achieved a significant goal.
    • Reference this informational video on various social media platforms and engagement strategies.

    Things to remember
    • Continue to post.  A stagnant page is almost worse than no page at all.
    • Follow other pages. Take a look at other pages within LinkedIn that you are a member of and take note of what may be working for them.
    • Don’t be afraid to try new things. LinkedIn is constantly developing new ways to engage members. When these new features emerge, try them out.
    • Create a buzz about LinkedIn content. Hopefully members will be buzzing about the valuable discussions and encourage their colleagues to follow the page!
