In Honor of International Women’s Day, the ACC Foundation Women in the House (WITH) Network is Celebrating Women in the Law Around the World

Join the Women in the House (WITH) Network for an innovative and exciting global event planned by the WITH leadership team. Our focus and event title is Celebrating Women in the Law Around the World.  Beginning on March 1, WITH will host daily themed events ranging from charitable giving to selfcare that are meaningful and relevant to female attorneys practicing law in-house.  We are closing this week-long celebration with a terrific keynote speaker featuring an intimate interview with Michele Coleman Mayes, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for the New York Public Library. #WITHcares #ACCFamily #IWD2021 #ACCFoundation

  2. “I Can Fly” - I Can Fly is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Kenya-East Africa that rescues, educates, and empowers vulnerable youth ages 6-17 years old through education and justice initiatives. Since 2005, I Can Fly has assisted hundreds of women and children in their plight against early marriages, female genital mutilation, sexual abuse, child labor, tribal wars, illiteracy and extreme poverty. 
     
  3. New Way of Life Re‑Entry Project, a Black‑owned LA‑based nonprofit organization that provides housing, case management, pro bono legal services, advocacy, and leadership development for women rebuilding their lives after prison.

APAC Legal Women of Influence and the Surprising Impact of COVID

Stretch WITH Us

The ACC Women in the House Network is pleased to invite you to experience “the ultimate stretching experience” in The Stretch Room on March 4 at 12:00 PM ET, 9:00 AM PT. There are many physical and mindfulness benefits associated with stretching including, increasing flexibility, improving range of motion, caring for your muscles, releasing stress and calming your mind. Monday, March 8 – Leadership Insights with Michele Coleman Mayes

Join us on Monday, March 8 at noon ET; 9:00 AM PT for an intimate interview offering insights into how Ms. Mayes ascended to the role of General Counsel of the New York Public Library, to include discussion of how she became a noted leader in the legal industry and corporate America, encountering, navigating and overcoming career stagnation and other challenges, the critical human capital growth points, the impact of emotional intelligence on in-house practice, the difference between and the importance of having a “sponsor” and a “mentor”, and the “things no one tells you” about being a woman in the house.  We want the discussion to resonate with you, so please submit proposed interview questions to tsimmons@deltasigmatheta.org by February 26, 2021.

Michele Coleman Mayes Biography:

Michele Coleman Mayes is Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for the New York Public Library (2012 – present).  She previously held the position of General Counsel for Allstate Insurance Company (2007-2012) and Pitney Bowes Inc. (2003-2007). Ms. Mayes served on the Presidential Commission on Election Administration from 2013-2014. She was Chair of the Commission on Women in the Profession of the American Bar Association from 2014-2017. In 2015, she became a Fellow of the American College of Governance Counsel and was elected to its Board of Trustees in December 2019. In August 2016, she was elected to the Board of Directors of Gogo Inc. (NASDAQ: GOGO).  She is a sought after speaker on the topic of diversity and inclusion. She is co-author of the book Courageous Counsel: Conversations with Women General Counsel in the Fortune 500.
