This article provides an examination of a 2020 Hong Kong Court of First Instance (HKCFI) case in which the Judge embraced the use of technology in order promote cost-effectiveness in civil litigation; subsequently, there was the recent permission of substituted service of certain Court documents by way of Quick Response or QR code.
Moreover, the Judge stated that the use of modern technology also promotes a sense of reasonable proportion and procedural economy and ensures fairness between the parties.
