ACC Houston Best Practices Practice Group CLE
Best Practices in Optimizing Your Jury Verdict
Reptile Theory in Trial and the Difference Between Winning Big and Losing Big.

November 9, 2023 | 11:30 am - 1:00 pm | Kiran's

Why are we seeing a proliferation of nuclear verdicts? Reptile theory. Plaintiffs know how to use it and companies don’t know how to deal with it.  Learn in this presentation best practices for optimizing your jury verdict, like how to counter reptile theory as a defendant, and how you can use it powerfully when you are the plaintiff, regardless of what type of case you are in.

Join your ACC Chicago colleagues at Chicago's most elegant wine bar and one of the nation's few dedicated champagne bars!

Join ACC St. Louis and Ogletree Deakins for a 1-hour CLE on Leave Accommodations Outside of the FMLA.

The federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act requires accommodations for normal pregnancies and became effective June 27, 2023. In combination with the ADAAA amendments (which make it easier to prove disabilities, even for temporary conditions), these developments arguably have extended FMLA protections to employees immediately upon the onset of employment, without any length or service requirement and potentially without a 12-week limitation on leave.

Join this session for a discussion of leaves as an accommodation even without meeting FMLA eligibility requirements.

We look forward to seeing you IN-PERSON on Monday October 30th!

The Agenda for the 24th Annual Event will vary slightly from years past. With many upgrades for this 24th Annual event, we are thrilled to announce that our golfers will once again be able to enjoy Houston's premier PGA golf course, Memorial Golf Course.  This popular in-town muni sports fascinating green contours, modest but strategic bunkering, and acres of short-grass runoff around putting surfaces. The Original John Bredemus routing from 1936 has been tweaked some to make betters of the basically flat site, with lots of understory and trees removed to expose the ravines and make it spectator friendly for the PGA Tour's annual Houston Open. The work by architect Tom Doak was enhanced by consulting of 4-time major winner Brooks Koepka. Together, they have produced a golf course that tests everyday players and elite golfers alike.

Not to be outdone by golf, our spa attendees will see increased amenities and time at Trellis Spa at The Houstonian Hotel.  Trellis spa boasts as a Mediterranean style spa surrounding a courtyard that offers a beautiful, natural garden environment seen through large windows located throughout the spa.  In the newly renovated spa, our attendees will choose from massage, facial, manicure and pedicure treatments and we have added therapeutic treatments from The Covery by The Houstonian.  New treatments this year include Cryo-facial + Red Light Therapy, Infrared Sauna Therapy and Therabody Compression + Brain Tap. Also new this year, we are adding PICKLEBALL to the indoor racquet activities! As always, we will have tennis lessons with the pros at The Houstonian Club.  We will have yoga/pilates classes, as well. ACC Houston members will also have their choice of attending a floral design class sponsored by Kean Miller

This is our annual "Can't Miss Event"!  Plan to carve out time for the whole day for this event; you'll be glad you did!
