Liability insurance policies can be a valuable asset for corporate insureds and can help defray much or all of the expense associated with defending and resolving lawsuits and other claims. However, companies often fail to take full advantage of the broad coverage their liability insurance policies provide. In this presentation, insurance recovery partners from Pasich LLP will focus on ways in which companies can maximize their coverage for lawsuits and claims and maximize the value of their liability insurance policies. Among other topics, our panel will address notice and reporting requirements, privilege, defense costs, settlements, responding to reservations of rights letters, and understanding the rights and issues associated with independent defense counsel. The panel also will provide tips for ensuring that all available insurance and indemnity resources have been considered.

In addition to the in-person CLE held at Exterro's headquarters in Portland's exciting Slabtown neighborhood, there will also be an informal reception outside on Exterro's patio (weather permitting) with some terrific prizes.

All in-house counsel may attend regardless of membership in the ACC.  All non-members attending will be eligible for the raffle of an annual membership to the ACC (a $399 value) in September.

Attorney Geoff Thorne will present on an employer’s “best practices” for responding to internal workplace complaints raised by workers (and, in a limited context, third-parties).  Geoff will cover the risk mitigation procedures that employers should follow when conducting a workplace investigation from the intake of a complaint through the ultimate determination, and everything in between – including guidelines for interviewing the parties and percipient witnesses, record-keeping tips, and how to effectively implement interim relief.  He will also highlight the common missteps that employers make during the investigative process, which inevitably results in litigation that could otherwise have been avoided.  The seminar will be beneficial to employers of any size – whether your workforce numbers 1 or 10,000.  (1 MCLE General credit)

Public Law Center's (PLC) provides free civil legal services to low-income residents of Orange County in a variety of substantive law areas including Heath Law, Immigration Law, Family Law, and many others. PLC's Domestic Violence Assistance Project is held every Monday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., except for court holidays, at the Lamoreaux Family Justice Center located at 341 The City Drive South, Orange, CA 92868.  PLC, along with volunteer attorneys and law students, assist domestic violence survivors seeking to file temporary restraining orders in pro per.

Volunteers assist survivors by helping them complete the declaration portion of the petition—a critical piece of storytelling—which has a significant impact in a survivor’s ability to obtain a protective order. Clinics are supervised by a PLC attorney who will review and edit the client declarations prepared by volunteers before printing out the final product.

There are multiple opportunities throughout the month of July. The PLC has a particular need for volunteers on Mondays, so ACC has decided to focus on the following dates: July 10, July 17, July 24, and July 31. Since each clinic has a limited number of spots, we cannot guarantee an ACC member will be at each one. Please feel free to bring others from your legal department with you. This event is open to lawyers and paralegals. No experience is needed. Training is provided via recorded video here.
