Dr. Susan Lovelle is a former professional ballerina, a plastic surgeon for 22 years, and a life-long health nut. Dr. Lovelle loves the challenge of working with busy, successful people who are merely surviving on caffeine, wine and willpower. It took combining the lessons she learned from one particular liposuction patient with her own personal health challenges to understand and develop just what was needed - an integrated, personalized approach to wellness that went beyond the standard “eat less, exercise more, think positive thoughts” advice that pervades the internet.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT: Depending on the source you ask, attaining balance between work and home life is either an absolute necessity for continued success or a pie-inthe-sky fantasy. Whichever camp you’re in, overwork and burnout is real, especially with women. Understand how “Listen, Let Go, and Live” can guide you through any adversity, decision, or question in the future.

What did one strawberry say to the other strawberry?

If you weren’t so sweet, we wouldn’t be in this jam!

Nothing brings in the taste of spring like a bite of a fresh strawberry. Thankfully OCAABA and ACC have worked together to quench that thirst with a Sunday fun day at Tanaka Farms. On May 21, 2023 at 9:30AM, we will be hosting a strawberry tour at Tanaka Farms in Irvine and providing complimentary admission and light lunch. Take a guided wagon ride around a 30 acre farm to see and learn about how spring fruits and vegetables grow. Make one stop to pick a seasonal vegetable, and then the last stop on this tour is in the strawberry patch where you can pick and eat strawberries. Everyone will take home a one-pound basket of strawberries! Following the tour, we will provide a light lunch and networking. Space is limited so sign up fast. Individuals are welcome to bring a guest at their own expense for the tour and lunch. We look forward to seeing you there!

Wagon Rides will begin at 10 a.m.

Guests are welcome but will have to purchase their own ticket and lunch:

The authentic setting will surround our group with Spanish top-shelf products and a spectacular wine cellar that references the Spanish scene. We hope you can join us!

Once thought of as the stuff of amateurish virtual games, futuristic movies and imaginary science fiction, engaging in business in a virtual world or a metaverse is close enough to mainstream reality to mandate that we consider its consequences. Described as a shared, online, three-dimensional space where people can live, work, interact and connect virtually, these platforms pose incredible opportunities but also unending legal risks.

Join us for a 90 minute session where we will walk through a hypothetical example and have an interactive discussion about the legal issues that can arise. For example…

  • Are you reviewing your strategy for IP registration and protection in a global, virtual world — including if and where you register your trademarks?
  • How do you plan to manage the collection of personal data, and can it be monetized?
  • What do you foresee as your key revenue drivers/business model in a virtual environment? Have you considered which IP you may license for NFTs and the terms of such licenses?
  • With increased network security requirements by regulators, expanding vectors of attack and the heightened sophistication of cyberattacks, have you revisited your cybersecurity policy and data incident procedures recently?
  • Have you created specific terms and conditions to govern interactions with business customers and individual consumers using your products/services?

Speakers:
Cynthia Cole, Partner, Baker McKenzie

Teresa Michaud, Partner, Baker McKenzie

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, ACC will participate in the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles’ (LAFLA) Pro Bono Firefighter Expungement Clinic to help formerly incarcerated individuals who fought California fires while serving their sentences clear their criminal records. The clinic will be held at LAFLA’s offices located at 1550 W. 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90017.

A record expungement enables individuals, who have completed their sentence(s), to dismiss criminal convictions, allowing them to move on with their lives and seek jobs and other opportunities. The Firefighter Expungement Clinic program was developed in response to California Assembly Bill 2147, which was passed to assist formerly incarcerated individuals who contributed to California’s wildfire-related efforts pursue firefighting jobs and other first responder frontline work that would otherwise not be available to them.

Prior to the 2.5 hour clinic, volunteers will receive a link to a pre-recorded training video. During the clinic, working under the supervision of LAFLA staff, volunteer lawyers will review a client file and meet with a client to prepare expungement petitions and supporting declarations. Volunteers will provide legal services in a limited clinic setting and clients will represent themselves pro se. The volunteer service will end at the conclusion of the clinic and LAFLA will provide further guidance to the clients.

Lunch will be served from 12:00-1:00 p.m. following the clinic. Please note that if additional clients sign up, LAFLA may open a second clinic session from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Please Register by April 17, 2023

Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement:  To participate in the clinic, all volunteers must sign the following volunteer documents online:

    • This form ensures that LAFLA’s malpractice insurance covers all volunteers.
  • COVID Vaccination and Booster: All volunteers who provide in-person volunteer services at a LAFLA clinic must provide proof of vaccination, and upload their proof of vaccination and any booster shots here. These files remain confidential and go to LAFLA’s HR department.

Please join us on the Zoom platform for our ACC-SFBA employment law consultation for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. This event is presented by Cozen O'Connor and organized in conjunction with the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco (JDC).

FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2023

The afternoon will consist of:

12:15pm: Lunch Delivery & Introductions 12:30 - 1:45pm: Volunteer Training (1.25 hrs California CLE Credit) 1:45 - 2:00pm: Breakout Room Prep Time for Volunteers 2:00 - 2:20pm: Non-Profit Introductions 2:20 - 4:20pm: Consultations 4:20 - 4:30pm: Break 4:30 - 5:15pm: Networking Reception

The event starts with a virtual CLE training session, by Cozen O’Connor, to update ACC members on employment law in California. Next, members will be placed into small teams (with one or two other attorneys) to meet with their assigned nonprofit clients. Teams will have a couple hours to help their clients identify employment law issues and to counsel their clients. Cozen O'Connor employment attorneys will be standing by to assist with challenging questions. All ACC members are welcome, regardless of your level of experience - you do not have to be an employment attorney to participate, and you are not required to provide pro bono services to your assigned clients after this event. Examples of the types of non-profits these events have helped in the past include:

  • An organization that empowers young mothers to complete their high school and post-secondary education and nurtures their children’s development
  • An organization that supports low-income families during the pandemic by distributing packages of education essentials
  • An organization that works on behalf of low-income immigrants and refugees through advocacy, education, legal services, and other community-based services
