Employee leaves can be complicated and complying with the host of laws and regulations is often a complex and daunting task. Does the employee meet eligibility requirements? Is the time off paid? Can leave be taken intermittently? Does the leave run concurrently with other paid time off? Lauren has significant experience representing and advising employers concerning all forms of employment issues, including claims arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and similar state and local laws in numerous state and federal courts and agencies. Lauren has substantial experience working with the aviation, pharmaceutical, healthcare, education, hospitality and restaurant, and manufacturing industries. Prior to joining Fisher Phillips, Lauren was an associate with a Chambers USA-recognized employment law boutique in Bethesda, Maryland and in the Baltimore, Maryland and Wilmington, Delaware offices of an AmLaw 10 international law firm.
Lauren lives in Cary with her husband, Reuben, Sr. Counsel, Litigation at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, their two young children, and their latest addition, a new puppy.
Elizabeth Ramirez-Washka, Associate General Counsel, Duke University
Elizabeth Ramirez-Washka advises Duke University and Duke University Health System on matters involving employment and labor law, employment litigation and regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining Duke University, Elizabeth served as Deputy General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer for Boy Scouts of America, Corporate Counsel Employment and Labor for a multinational corporation and has multiple years of experience from her practice of law in the private sector, healthcare sector and federal government, including the National Labor Relations Board.
Ms. Ramirez-Washka received degrees in Science, Advertising and Journalism from The University of Texas and her law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
