Indulge in an evening of culinary delight at a private buy-out of The Aviary.

This special event will feature a 5-course cocktail progression, each thoughtfully accompanied by perfectly paired bites.

This bespoke experience promises not only a journey through exquisite flavors, but also an opportunity to mingle with friends and colleagues in a relaxed, unique setting.

Join the ACC WI and Amundsen Davis (f/k/a Davis Kuelthau and Smith Amundsen) for a social event like no other.  On April 24th, test your artistic skills by forging your very own fireside beverage holder – perfect for those classic Wisconsin summer night bonfires.  Not a fan of campfires? This forged beverage holder easily serves as garden art as well.  Family-owned Milwaukee Blacksmith will teach each participant the art of forging hand-crafted ironwork that is both functional and artistic.

Cocktails and appetizers will be provided. Closed-toe shoes are required.  It is also recommended that you wear clothes that can get dirty though it is unlikely that you will get dirty (unless you prefer to – we encourage you to immerse yourself in the experience however you see fit).

The class size is limited so register early.  A waiting list will be established if we reach capacity.

Location:

Milwaukee Blacksmith, Inc

Learn about the new regulations governing corporate disclosure requirements, as enacted by the Corporate Transparency Act that went into effect January 1, 2024. This legislation aims to combat illicit financial activities such as money laundering, tax evasion, and terrorism financing by enhancing transparency within corporate structures. Equip yourself with knowledge and strategies to guide your company through the Act’s complexities, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and to mitigate legal risks.

The start of 2024 finds leaders of corporate law departments in an exciting but challenging position.  On the one hand, some macroeconomic factors driving rapid change have settled into a status quo, while other factors, such as a changing regulatory environment, the looming uncertainty of generative AI, and continued increases in costs for outside counsel, continue to shift the ground under corporate general counsel.  At the same time, many GCs are looking for ways to redefine their roles within their enterprises, moving away from the perception of the law department as a cost center and toward a sense that the business’s lawyers are a vital part of the strategic direction of the enterprise.

This session will explore how GCs are striking a balance between how their departments operate efficiently, provide effective advice, enable business growth, and protect the business from risk.  The discussion will include an exploration of key questions all legal function leaders should be asking themselves and their leadership teams, as well as metrics that GCs should consider tracking to gauge the performance of their team.  The session will also feature an opportunity to discuss with peers what obstacles the department may face as it seeks to move to a value center for the business, strategies for overcoming those challenges, and ideas for using data-driven insights to tell the story of the law department’s contribution to the business.

New Developments & Proactive Strategies in Breach Response, from AI to ESG In the last year, 53% of companies have experienced a data breach related to third parties, just as regulators are increasingly incorporating data breaches into ESG ratings. What are some of the recent developments within breach response that are helping companies and their law firms respond faster and more effectively? What are some of the proactive measures most effective in mitigating risks?

Join us on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Hewing Hotel as we celebrate Spring and gather for the Baker McKenzie Annual Program for In-House Counsel in partnership with ACC Minnesota.

Mission Impossible: Strategies for Navigating Geopolitical Risk in a Complex and Volatile World

Focusing on the evolving global geopolitical landscape, the program will address the legal and compliance considerations that play an increasingly central role in mitigating against geopolitical risks and informing critical business decisions.

Our panel will feature insights from CHS's General Counsel Brandon Smith, 3M's LATAM Privacy and Cybersecurity Counsel Fábio Calil, along with Baker McKenzie international practitioners, Sunny Mann (EMEA), Vivian Wu (APAC), and Kerry Contini (NA), who will share their own perspective on how developments across trade, sanctions, managing privacy and cyber risks, and the deals landscape are impacting business strategies.

To close the evening, we invite you to enjoy a relaxed networking reception featuring a variety of wines, hors d'oeuvres and, most importantly, peer connections.

CLE Hours in Tennessee (Pending)

In a fast-paced hour, you will meet many new and rapidly changing California employment laws. Give them a chance—you might even find some that you like!

Our topics will include presumption of retaliation in certain terminations, workplace violence prevention standards, expanded paid sick leave, still more restrictions on non-compete agreements, and limitations on employers regarding cannabis use.

We also provide timely reminders of our own rapidly developing laws in Illinois and Chicago in some of these same areas.
