The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the world's largest organization serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations, nonprofits and other private-sector organizations around the globe.
ACC-SoCal will be partnering with Elder Law and Disability Rights Center at CHOC to assist parents of individuals with developmental disabilities to obtain limited conservatorship so they can retain some of the decision making rights even if their child is over 18 years old.
ACC members will be provided with a training video that they can view on their own time prior to the clinic. They will be assigned a family and will review the packet submitted by the family. At CHOC, members will assist the family in completing the limited conservatorship forms for e-filing. If ACC members want to stay with the family through the entire court process, they can sign onto the case as pro bono.
Lunch will be provided. Please bring a laptop or iPad to the clinic and wear your ACC-SoCal shirt. If you don’t yet have an ACC-SoCal shirt, they will be provided to members at the event.

The Well-Being Committee invites you to a series of weekly online Tai Chi classes. Tai Chi is an ancient martial art that is widely practiced as a form of rehabilitation and moving meditation. In this beginner-friendly, series of 6 classes, you will progressively learn the first 8 movements of the Tai Chi 24 Yang Style, along with gentle stretches, balance exercises and six simple Qigong movements.
Taught by Tai Chi instructor and Reiki Master, Angie Sierra, the class will focus on enhancing physical wellness through fluid and balanced movements, mental clarity, and relaxation techniques. Relying on her extensive experience in both academic and community-based wellness education, Angie has curated this program so individuals of any age and fitness level can participate. Her approach integrates conscious breathing, body alignment, and environmental awareness, enhancing the therapeutic impact of Tai Chi.
Please dress comfortably, and as with all exercise, consult your physician before joining if you are pregnant or have any medical conditions, or injuries.

This year, the third annual National Flash Trial Competition will be taking place from September 6 – 8 at JAMS in San Francisco. Run in association with the Berkeley Law Trial Advocacy Team, NFTC is a unique mock trial competition where top law school trial advocacy programs from around the country come to compete against each other and showcase their advocacy skills. NFTC is unique from any other mock trial competition; each round, teams are presented with a completely new case and have just one hour to come up with a case strategy, prepare arguments and witness examinations, and master the evidence for their case.
NFTC is currently looking for lawyers around the Bay Area who are able to come judge rounds. It’s because of volunteer judges that NFTC is able to happen. If you are able to come judge rounds at NFTC this year, please sign up to judge. Your feedback and experience would be valuable to the competitors! There is a particular need for judges in Rounds 1 and 3 below.
Below is a list of the times for each of the rounds this year. The official link to sign up to judge can be found here, and more information about NFTC generally, including the ten schools that will be competing at this year’s competition, can be found at NFTC’s website, at https://www.flashtrials.com/nftc-2024.
If you have any questions, please email CBrown@Venable.com. We hope to see you at NFTC this September!
