It’s an unfortunate reality of the times we live in, but employers need to prepare for the possibility of an active shooter in the workplace – and consider how to respond, as well as the legal ramifications. After the presentation, attendees will know what legal risks are associated with active shooters and workplace violence, and know which steps to take before, during, and after any such tragic event.

The 82nd (2023) Session of the Nevada State Legislature began February 6 and will adjourn June 5. The bills that make it to Governor Lombardo’s desk and those that he signs into law reflect a state government that has a Republican Governor looking to fulfill campaign promises with a Democrat-controlled State Assembly and State Senate. Nevada Democrats have a bare supermajority in the Assembly (28-14) and are one shy of a supermajority in the Senate (13-8). Without a supermajority in both chambers, Democrats are unable to override a gubernatorial veto and cannot raise taxes without a two-thirds vote as stipulated in a constitutional amendment. The CLE program will provide an update on new and changed laws, regulations, and compliance requirements that directly and indirectly impact in-house counsel, including those employment, labor laws, worker’s compensation, healthcare, housing, education, taxes, energy, natural resources, gun control, and economic development.

· The rules for protecting trade secret information

· Best ways to protect your future and current patents

· When copyrights and trademarks should come into play

· IP enforcement rules of engagement

This presentation we will focus on a breadth of intellectual property issues that general counsel deal with on a daily basis. The program will, at a high level, cover patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret issues that general counsel without inside IP counsel might expect to see on a weekly monthly or yearly basis. We will discuss how to handle the IP legal issues that arise, what inside counsel can handle and when to get some outside help.
