In April 2021, the U.S. Department of Labor issued cybersecurity best practices for benefit plan fiduciaries. Since then, DOL is actively enforcing cybersecurity in its investigations of both retirement plans and health and welfare plans â especially those that have experienced a data breach. The recent MOVEit cyber incident demonstrates that just one vendor's software defect can result in lawsuits and can affect hundreds of plan sponsors, millions of plan participants, and investment funds in the trillion-dollar range. In Walsh v. Alight Solutions, the Seventh Circuit ruled that DOL has authority to issue subpoenas in the course of its cybersecurity investigations. In this session, we will discuss the latest cybersecurity related litigation and focus on practical steps you can take to mitigate the cyber risks posed by your own ecosystem of benefit plan fiduciaries and service providers.

To have technical skills or knowledge, experience or many years doing a job, it’s totally different to have the capacity to exert effective leadership. To accomplish this, there is a need to develop specific skills and attitudes that can assure an adequate fulfillment of goals and the establishment of a productive working environment.
This program will be hosted in English.

As more ‘every-day’ companies intersect with non-traditional finance, digital assets and AI and data-driven platforms and services, we are seeing many more clients coming to us for assessments and audits of their policies and procedures, as they increasingly discover vulnerabilities that are being exposed by a growing number of internal/external pressures, including frauds and data breaches. Join Katie Mills (Los Angeles) and Benjamin Bathgate (Toronto), and Javier Alvarez (New York), Managing Director, Forensics Digital Assets Leader for an inside look at how in-house compliance and litigation risk assessments are changing with these new pressures, and how your legal, risk and compliance departments may need to evolve to keep pace!
