Corporate Scholars Program

Corporate Scholars Program smcvicker@syst…

Applications for the Class of 2025 are open!

ACC NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION CORPORATE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

“IN-HOUSE” SUMMER INTERNSHIPS AT
COMPANIES AND NON-PROFITS

ACC National Capital Region – the regional chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel – is very pleased to invite students from eligible Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland law schools to apply to participate in the 22nd year of our Corporate Scholars Program. This program provides experiential learning opportunities in the local legal departments of prestigious companies and not-for-profit organizations. The Corporate Scholars Program is designed to give students from the law schools in our region meaningful exposure to in-house practice. We hope to get applications from populations that may otherwise lack access to these opportunities, but welcome all who are interested to apply.

In the summer of 2025, ACC National Capital Region plans to select multiple students for the Program. We solicit the internship opportunities from General Counsel who are ACC National Capital Region members, and expect to get a terrific response.  In recent years, the organizations that hosted Scholars included: American Red Cross, Amtrak, Booz Allen Hamilton, Carey International Inc., Cvent, Freddie Mac, General Dynamics Mission Systems, Hilton Worldwide, MAG Aerospace, National Association for the Education of Young Children, NewMarket Services Corporation, Rosetta Stone, Sandy Spring Bank, Sodexo Inc., Special Olympics, and VOX Media.

These opportunities are open to students who will be enrolled in the fall 2025, including students in joint-degree programs and/or in full-time and part-time law school programs. The internships will last for ten (10) weeks, starting on or before June 2, 2025.  Students will be paid $10,000 (less applicable income taxes and other deductions) over the course of the 10 weeks by their host organizations, with funding from the Ilene G. Reid Corporate Scholars Fund administered by the Greater Washington Community Foundation.

For years, brand owners have asked online retailers to help them find and punish unauthorized resellers for their violations. Unfortunately for brand owners online retailers typically take a percentage of third-party sales within its marketplace and are hesitant to enforce seller pricing agreements and risk losing revenue. As a result of leaks in the supply chain, resellers obtain authentic products and sell them online below their minimum advertised price or attempt to violate trademarks and copyrights, making it difficult for brand owners to protect themselves. Copyright and trademark infringement can hurt a brand's functionality severely by affecting its Buy Box share, revenue, and, most importantly, brand reputation. This panel discussion will address different solutions to deal with these international online marketplace issues that in-house counsel of consumer brand manufacturers and distributors deal with daily.
