What We Do

The Street Law Committees run a corporate legal pipeline program, to help young people from underserved high schools in Chicago and the Northwest suburbs explore the path to the legal profession. The program was developed by ACC in collaboration with Street Law, Inc. (streetlaw.org) and brings Chicago area lawyers to nearby high school classrooms (both Chicago Public Schools and the U-46 District of Northwest Suburbs) that serve youth from diverse backgrounds.

During the late winter/early spring months, we visit the participating classes and teach students about the practice of law. The program culminates by bringing the students and their teachers together for a one-day conference (one for each geographic component). During the conference, ACC volunteers lead students through interactive workshops such as mock trials and contract negotiations.

These programs have been highly successful. Typically more than 65 in-house attorney volunteers reached about 300 promising young students.

Who We Are

Both of the Street Law Committees consist of one Chairperson and several Committee members.

Opportunities to Get Involved

The Street Law Committees are always looking for new volunteers to participate in either the Chicago Loop or the NW Suburbs programs. The time commitment is flexible, averaging 10-15 hours total volunteer hours over the course of three to four months - a small commitment to change the life of a deserving student.
